Placenta is composed of several healing proteins and hormones:

  • Prolactin: A hormone that promotes lactation

  • Oxytocin: “The love hormone” that promotes pain relief, and as it’s also released during labor, birth & breastfeeding; it encourages hormonal bonding with your baby and an increase in contentment

  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Helps boost energy levels and aids in recovery from taxing events

  • Cortisone: Another hormone that tackles stress and unlocks energy stores

  • Interferon: An antibody that stimulates the immune system to protect against infections

  • Prostaglandins: Anti-inflammatory agents designed to speed up recovery

  • Hemoglobin: Protein that replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition

  • Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: Enzyme-like agents that stop bleeding and promote wound healing throughout the body

  • Gammaglobulins: Immune booster proteins that help protect against postpartum infections

Placenta on a Canvas

Placenta prints make beautiful art, you can frame it and admire the amazing tree of life that nourished your baby for years to come. I use your placenta to create a classic “tree” print on a high-quality 3X5 canvas using vegan-based food coloring before beginning the process for encapsulation. The result is an organic piece of art that is unique to you. Various colors are available. 

 

2 oz Placenta Tincture

A tincture is made with fresh placenta components steeped in grain-based 80% proof alcohol (vodka or whisky). The tincture is swirled daily for six weeks. This shelf-stable placenta infusion can be used long after your capsules are gone. Use as early as your first menstrual cycle through menopause.

Placenta Encapsulation Client Terms & Conditions

BY PURCHASING ANY JAI OLIVE PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SERVICES YOU, THE CLIENT, ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • If I am not already a birth doula client of JAI OLIVE, I will arrange for someone to CALL JAI OLIVE immediately following my birth to inform Jai Olive that my placenta is available.

  • Travel Fee: There is no travel fee when I travel within 30 miles (round trip) from Ankeny, IA. Mileage over 30 is billed at .80 cents per mile.

  • I understand that Jai Olive follows these guidelines regarding the timing of my placenta pick-up, which is based on the birth location. If I am giving birth at one of the following locations, I agree to follow these guidelines listed below:

    • Mary Greeley

    • Broadlawns

    • Unity Point - Methodist (Downtown + West)

    • MercyOne (Downtown + West)

  • Established clients will allow their birth doula to take the placenta upon their departure from the birth.

  • I will inform my provider(s) that we will choose to keep our placenta and send it with a Jai Olive doula. 

  • All clients understand placenta is taken from the birthplace with the sole purpose of placental preparation.

  • I understand that Jai Olive utilizes a 100% sanitized environment to process my placenta.

  • I understand that my placenta capsules are always stored in a cool, dark place, away from excess moisture. When properly sealed and frozen, the capsules should last 1-2 years.

  • If my placenta is declared not to be fit for my consumption (due to improper storage, infection, or any other medical condition), the medical staff at my birthplace may not allow me or Jai Olive to take the placenta, and/or Placenta Encapsulation Specialist may refuse to process my placenta. In the case of any of these scenarios, I have two options: 1) the fee will be credited to my Jai Olive account where I can receive other services from Jai Olive of equal or lesser value, or 2) a partial refund will be issued. I acknowledge that by booking in advance, I waive my right to a 100% refund should my placenta be declared to be unfit for encapsulation. I realize I must inform Jai Olive of which option I choose.

  • I understand that the act of ingesting placenta in any form has not been tested, nor approved, by the FDA. Furthermore, I release Jai Olive, It Takes a Village, and either of the organizations’ representatives from any liability associated with this process. I understand that the Traditional Method does, and the Raw Start Method does not comply with USDA Food Safety Standards.

  • Jai Olive makes no guarantees about capsule efficacy, but we guarantee the highest service quality.

All placenta handling is done by a

It Takes a Village Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. I follow OSHA Guidelines and am Bloodborne Pathogen Certified.

 

I aim for a 72-hour turnaround from the time I pick up your placenta.

​

Service areas include Des Moines, Ankeny, Ames, and within 30 mi radius. Travel fees may be assessed outside this area.
